Am I the only one who thinks the styling is really "off"? think
It looks more like one of the recent Honda parallel twins than the genuine article from the early 80's. Which given the performances of the former is perfectly suitable styling for a retro bike. Laugh

PS: cable activated clutch. On a 1000cc bike in 2020. Good old Suzuki. Grin

It's shit. smile

Why do they try and capture something from an iconic bike then wreck the fucking thing.

The original Katana is probably the oldest bike I really like style wise (not saying older bikes look shite, just first modern/fairing design I lusted after)

the front 50% of the bike doesn't look too bad from the pic you posted with quite a few styling queues from the original but then it goes tits up from the mid point and turns into a modern sports bikes rear end No

Haven't look at many new bikes dashes but starting to think proper rev counters are now a rarity Wall

The original Katana was styled by Hans Muth, who also styled the BMW R650LS which came out the same year in an attempt to breath some life back into the by then obsolete R65.

Very few (about 1,500) were made: this is a very rare bike, but for a reason. Or several. Wink

Muth used as much of the previous bikes as possible: the Suzuki was basically a more uncomfortable and pricier GS1100. Laugh
There's actually a rather interesting story behind how the original Katana came about. Suffice to say that just like the Honda SC28 (the first production Fireblade), the project was started by the European division of Suzuki and management in Japan liked it so much they greenlighted it.

I think these retro bikes (says the retro bike owner Wink ) are the more expensive masculine version of a designer handbag.
Both BMW and Ducati sold thousands of their RNineT and Scrambler respectively and now you don't see one on the road. Now Kawasaki Z900's are flying out of the showroom. Next up... Suzuki?
Like fashionable ladies wouldn't be caught dead with last year handbag, the fashionable rider wouldn't be caught dead with last year retro bike.
The only difference is the size of the loan that financed it all. Wink
