Need to be quick sometimes

here's a search to find an alternative

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=probook+%28400%2C600 %2C800%29&_mPrRngCbx=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_ trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=prodesk+%28400%2C600%2C800%29& ;_sacat=0

If it comes down to buying one with a traditional 500GB drive, then as discussed, its not a big issue to

a) put your Samsung SSD as second drive in the new PC
b) boot new PC and use Macrium to create image of the SSD (for safe keeping) on the 500GB disk (I can do this bit)
c) download Windows 10, burn to DVD or ideally a 8GB+ USB memory stick. There's a Microsoft Utility that will do this for you
d) shutdown new PC
e) disconnect the 500GB disk (to keep data safe), insert the DVD/USB stick and boot Windows 10 installer
f) Use the Disk Management part of Win10 installer to delete all current parititions on the SSD leaving just 230-240GB of free space, then click next and let Windows 10 install
g) Once Win10 is installed nd you've run the basic setup wizard (new user name, etc) shutdown again
h) reconnect the 500GB disk but ensure the SSD is the primary boot disk (BIOS check boot order)
i) Install Teamviewer and I'll help out from there.

Guide (about 25% down) to creating a USB or DVD with Windows 10

From what I've found out VTR, the G33/G11 Intel chipset may be able to handle 8GB of ram as some people have their PC with more than the original stated 4GB but that the chipset (which are the other chips on the motherboard besides the Processor) was used by lots of PCs and so not specific to your Advent PC which could possibly be limited to 4GB if its BIOS which is set by Advent specifically set a 4GB limit....alhtough why would they is my thinking.

Its probably 50/50 gamble it would accept more than 4GB.

How many memory slots does it have as I think I read many G33 boards only have 2 slots but if it has 4 slots I may have a 1GB PC2-6400 memory stick laying around at home/work in which case you could keep the 2x2GB already there, add the extra 1GB to a spare slot and see if it picks up its running on 5GB....as a test?

For the sake of 67p I'd be willing to post it out to you (assuming I have one....75% sure I have) smile
Appologies for the late reply, now that I've got a spare moment I've had the side off the PC today & can confirm that it does indeed only have 2 slots....both of which are taken Sad

Whilst opened up I gave it a good hoover as there was a fair amount of dust build up around the vents etc & that has appeared to have settled the fan down a bit smile

Hoover works well in the absense of an air duster to clear the dust (80% skin iirc) that builds up over time and restricts cooling much like a radiator full of flies will do on a bikes raditor. Reminds me I might well do mine soon. Not keen on buying AIR (just passed opportuinity in Adsa to buy can of air for £2.50...was tempted thou Laugh but hoover, a few tissues and if you can, some cotton buds on the fan(s) blades soon clean them up pretty well.

Shame about only 2 memory slots and perhaps Slaz's soon to be sucessfull upgrade on the cheap may well give you motivation to perhaps do something similar next year if the lack of memory and general speed gets annoying.

Thought I'd given you a kick up the arse several times already Laugh

One more thought, what size monitor do you have as if you do opt for a new PC, you might be able to find one with a decent sized 22 or 23" LCD which will help with the low resolution (not fitting much on screen) you run at

Is that HP monitor link your current monitor? If so I guess 20" is fine, 23/24" nicer though

Can't decide for you mate, depends on how many pennies your prepared to spend, they're all ok, good make and business PCs so usually built better than the £400-600 home PC's you might spy in PC World

This is also nice as its one of those ultra small PCs although it'd only have space for a single 2.5" disk HD (or your own SSD)

never thought you'd do it Thumbs Up

Just have to work out disks as most likley you'd want the SSD in your current PC as the main drive as this will make things quicker but when you get it you may find the 500GB disk fine speed wise if so go head set it up with a new user account and we can talk connecting the SSD to the PC and transferring your data over
