That would be a hole in the battery. Grin
I don't know how it came about but electrolite fluid leaked out and did some damage. think

The battery is obviously a goner (€20-30 for an aftermarket one; prices seem to fluctuate wildly by the week) and after changing that you should also check the screen because it seems like the most affected part. First Generation IPad Air screens are not as widespread as those of later models but can be easily found on eBay albeit prices fluctuate even more widly (€20-75). Make sure you get one complete with preinstalled home button because swapping that thing around is just not worth your time.

I think first generation iPad Air go for €60-70 when working properly, so do the math before throwing money at it. think

Thanks Kak,as I'll probably go down the new battery route,
d'you think, and I know it's a guess, anything else could have blown,
ie electrical components 🤔

There isn't a whole lot of electrolite fluid in each battery cell, so it's very likely all the corrosion damage you see is all the corrosion damage you have.
Personally I'd be more concerned about the blow that caused that battery to rupture. Modern electronics are pretty sturdy but a heavy blow is still a heavy blow: for example in the old iPhone 4S an impact that broke the screen was often enough to damage the power button ribbon cable. Parts for Apple products are easy to find and often ridiculously cheap (the last ribbon cable I bought was €3 or so shipped) but most stuff requires some serious dismantling and reassemblying. Doh

Honestly I'd just change the battery and try to turn it on. From there you can work out what works and what doesn't.

Cheers mate,I've watched the YouTube video on changing the battery,
and it looks a big job, but i like messing with things like this, the
batteries on Amazon range from £10 to £30 and screens are roughly
the same, thinking £20 battery and see how we go 🤔
Any advice on batteries would be welcome 👍

I always get Apple parts on eBay. The only problem I had was with a 4S battery which was swapped on a no-questions-asked basis by the seller.
My only advice is to avoid batteries advertised as "extended capacity" as they seem to pretty short-lived. Deep discharging and Li-ion batteries don't go well together. No Finger

Another thing: Torx screwdrrvers always wear out fast, but those small sizes Apple uses wear out even faster. Always have a spare at hand. Wink

Not sure even Jailbroken a locked apple ID can be circumvented. Is the Apple ID its locked to a family email address even an old one as if so, you could recover the Apple ID by resetting the password?

re Jailbreak, what version of iOS is installed? The current iOS jailbreak is for up to iOS version 12.1.2 or 12.2 if an older device. If you've gone past that, then you'll have to wait for iOS 13 (Due Sept/Oct) then likley 4-6 months at best for the next jailbreak to find a security loophole it can use to inject the jailbreak.

you also need to download Cydia Impactor, then run that and drag'n'drop the chimera file onto it etc

guide below although as you need to enter a valid apple id and password you may get stuck unless you can use your own apple id

the chimera ipa file which I think downloads as 1.2.7.ipa

Obviously make sure the ipad is hooked up to your PC beforehand and unlocked

BTW I've read up on icloud locked devices and basically without having the person or password to the apple ID, there's no way to unlock that even with a jailbreak. Any site that claims it can unlock that for you is a scam site. But feel free to have a play with jailbreaking it.

btw you didn't mention which iOS its running, check SETTINGS -> GENERAL -> ABOUT to check version is supported

iOS first 12.4 updated by iTunes last night.
As soon as I switch iPad on it goes straight to the Apple ID box 👎
As soon as I plug into my PC it goes straight to Apple ID box on
iTunes, and that's were the story ends, atm going to have another
play later,🤔
As I read somewhere no 🍎ID it's an expensive paperweight 🙁

DNS is what any device (PC, phone etc) uses to find an internet based server eg if you want honda-forums.com and type that in your browser, your PC checks with its Domain Name Servers (DNS) which are usually your ISP's server to find the IP for that site which in the case of the forum thats 185.20.50.222 as honda-forum.com is just a friendly name us humans can remember but internet runs on numbers/IP addresses.

I can't see how changing DNS servers will help, I'd avoid that and accept that on iOS 12.4 a) you'll not be able to jailbreak and b) without knowing the original appleID email address (or setting up the exact same email account again if for example its available again, then you'll not be able to unlock the AppleID/Cloud part of the ipad

Once you mentioned v12/4 I knew you weren't going to be able to jailbreak as its a cat and mouse game between those that look for exploits/opportunities to find a way to inject the code into an Apple device on iOS version X which is whats needed to kick start a jailbreak and Apple as once Apple discover someone/group has found a way into the secure(ish) iOS, they then release a slight update to iOS to patch that exploit. Its a bit like Microsoft's regular updates for Windows partly fixing bugs/errors but also patching potential weaknesses in Windows that could be exploit by hackers.

for so example, iOS 12.0 came out, Apple patched a few things themselves due to bugs/feedback from end users then it stabilised around iOS 12.1.2.

But since iOS 12.0 came out hackers found a way into iOS (an exploit) and worked on using this to kick start a jailbreak which often takes months. In the meantime Apple while possibly aware from internet chit-chat that someone/some group has found an exploit and that perhaps a Jailbreak was coming but wouldn't know if the hackers/jailbreakers worked in secret what what the exploit was. Week/months later the Jailbreak is released to public for iOS versions 12 - 12.1.2 at which point Apple can also get hold of the jailbreak itself and use that to discover how/where the Jailbreak code is injected into iOS then rapidly prepare and release iOS 12.1.3 which then closes that avenue of attack/jailbreak.

As for the Asian ladies, are you sure they're ladies? naughty
