Things have moved on abit since my last post, the van has been causing some issues RollEyes just lately.

Drew has once again proved he's a credit to his profession, sorted my van out for me, sorted the grinding noise out amoungst lots of other bits and peices. Top job as always, thanks mate. Thumbs Up

The latest was a rear tyre blow out on the M74, fooking shit myself, changed lanes almost lost it!
That prompted a new full set of 5 tyres for £470 as I couldn't take any chances on the others, lucky I didn't trash the fooker in a ditch. eek

XT now waiting for fork seals, got everything else I need to put it all back together.
The fuel tank will now need a spray job, as the fresh powder coat is so white.
The tank now looks yellow. RollEyes

The old girl's tank is of to the paint shop tomorrow, it's being done professionally and not by me this time. smile

White again obviously, to match the new powdercoat.

Should be back next week, hope to have the bike finished by next weekend, ready for an MOT. Grin

I may even apply some stickers to the bike this time, XT or something. smile

There is an article on XT's in Classic Bike this month. 5 or 6 sides of print. Not read it yet as it only dropped on the mat this morning. I can always scan the article if you are interested

No don't worry GB, I've had this for at least 20 years now, there isn't anything I don't know about them, without trying to sound cocky. RollEyes

Thanks anyway.

I do know they are going up on value at the moment, a good clean restored example is in the region of £3k a donkey in need of full restoration is £1600.
As mine is nit a pure XT, the purists wouldn't be happy with it, but I love it. Grin

Thought I'd tag this onto an old thread. Wink

The old girl is getting a make over, I just don't use it like I should in it's current state, it could be so much better as something a little different.

So after much head scratching and investigating, I've decided on the obvious choice of flat tracker-ing the old girl. Nothing new in that but it will still be my interpretation of it.

I started with just removing the front end and purchasing an XR seat unit to see how it would line up/fit.

Now my only rule in this is NOT to remove anything from the standard frame, I don't mind adding brackets to it, but will not be chopping stuff off for obvious reasons.

The seat unit wouldn't directly fit as the rear over rail gets on the way, so I have a cunning plan to sort that. I cut the sections out to drop it down and sit it under the rail. I will be fibre-glassing back over the cut out to make a small tunnel so that the rails just emerge from the seat unit and not as they appear now. There are other things to glass onto the seat unit, and mounting brackets will be needed, but I have the idea in mind now so progress. smile

There is a lot to be done, the forks I plan to use will be Yamaha likely to be early R6, the wheels will be special 19" front and back the front of which will be a special size/make-up. this will not be a quick build, and will likely change a bit as it goes.
Grin
Disc brakes front and back, 12v electrics conversion, shocks undecided but probably "you know who"

Finally able to do something without suffering any pain, so crack on!

Busy with the fibreglass this weekend, bonding and shaping the seat over the frame rails.

http://s5.postimg.org/43eifgxfr/20151126_112558.jpg

built up with masking tape and plenty of pva release agent.

http://s5.postimg.org/h8zj22ekn/20151128_152159.jpg

A rough top fibreglass first, then the same underneath.
http://s5.postimg.org/wn6zuqjpj/20151129_132700.jpg

A cut, sand and shape, almost ready for the gel coat.

http://s5.postimg.org/5f5k9nkg7/20151129_141708.jpg

happy so far, then onto the supports for the seat to the frame rails.
