The one job i never got round to when i got the 600 was to check the Carbs,

after riding the bike on track last year it seems to have a spot in the Revs ~ 9,OOO TO 10,000 where it splutters as if short of fuel before clearing itself,

Any Ideas ???

anyway I decided to to take them off and have a look, Dont think they have been off for a while, If ever ! the clamps holding them on had corroded and i could only undo two of them, cut the outside one off and had to crowbar the last one to get them off Confused

I took some carbs to be sonic cleaned. When they came back and were rebuilt properly the difference was unbelievable.

Hi pecker, if carbs haven't been off ,I would have a look at the jet needle (is it adjustable) and the main jet (has someone changed the size)and of course float heights, not trying to tell my granny how to suck eggs just an observation smile

Cheers H, Yes i am looking at Carb Refurb Kits, I want it standard and know I the last owner never touched them, but before him ?

Or.... I might go down the route Gravel took, was it very expensive ?

I know a good clean and check is probably well overdue, the last owner had the bike 14 yrs and as i said never touched them

I had my old Kawasaki H1D 500 carbs stripped and rebuilt, they needed new floats plus 4 days in the sonic cleaner to get all the years of crud out !! Total job including removal, full rebuild, refit and set up was £175.

Sonic cleaners are available for reasonable money if you want to do a home rebuild.

I considered an ultra sonic cleaner in the past as they can be picked up fairly cheap on ebay and the like and seem to do a good job for the money although despite having the karts and their finicky carbs, I doubt I'd get round to doing their carbs often enough to warrant the storage space and cost.

Might be worth checking as best you can by eye the emulsion tubes as they tend to be made of softish (compared to steel needles) brass like material and can ovalise over time and while probably not as bad as the tubes on the TDM I once had which really were badly oval and the main cause of rich running issues, it could be a small glitch like your getting might be down to the needles slightly rattling around in the tubes at the revs you mention.
